Alan Bond

I · U.S. House, NJ-11 · Tier 1/2

Tier 1/2, between “Firmly pro-Israel” and “Mainstream pro-Israel”

Position

Independent (Hope for Tomorrow) candidate in NJ-11, a Montclair business strategist who finished third (0.5%) in the April 2026 special election. In a statement responding to the April 2026 debate he wrote that “Israel is one of America’s closest allies, and its security matters deeply,” that “Congress has a responsibility to ensure U.S. foreign aid reflects both strategic interests and humanitarian principles,” and that he supports “strong security cooperation with Israel while encouraging diplomacy that protects civilians.” Asked in iVoterGuide’s 2026 general-election questionnaire whether the U.S. relationship with Israel is important, Bond answered: “The United States’ relationship with Israel is important because Israel is one of our strongest democratic allies in the Middle East. Our partnership supports regional stability, intelligence cooperation, technological innovation, and shared democratic values. At the same time, the United States should continue working toward long-term peace and security for both Israelis and Palestinians.”

Why this tier

A 1/2 on a thin record, with a real case for a flat 2. His documented positions, in an April 2026 statement and a 2026 iVoterGuide answer, are strong support for Israel's security and for security cooperation, with no leadership on the issue; the questionnaire adds peace and security “for both Israelis and Palestinians.” The humanitarian language is generic — “civilians” and “humanitarian principles” without naming Gaza, Palestinians or any suffering — and it sits inside a pledge of security cooperation, so it does not yet count as daylight; nor is it a condition on weapons. Open to a flat 2 if he voices concern for Gaza's civilians specifically, and to 2/3 if the humanitarian-principles line becomes a stated condition on arms.
