Tier 1/2, between “Firmly pro-Israel” and “Mainstream pro-Israel”
Emergency physician and former Arizona state representative (2019–2024), the Democratic nominee for the open AZ-1 seat. In an April 2024 Middle East position paper reported by Jewish Insider, six months into the genocide, he backed continued U.S. aid to Israel with no “additional restrictions” and supported Israel’s war in Gaza as a fight against Hamas, writing: “I am dismayed by the lack of international pressure to oppose and dismantle Hamas. Israel is nearly alone in its effort, with the notable exception of the United States.” DMFI’s PAC and JDCA’s Arizona chapter backed his 2024 run; his 2026 campaign site says nothing on Israel or Gaza. At a June 18, 2026 Jewish Democratic Council of America forum he said “I absolutely support the Iron Dome and defensive weapons,” backed a two-state solution, said the prime minister’s policies “are breaking Israeli society and leaving Israel less secure,” and added, “We want dignity and security for all people involved.” At an October 11, 2026 Jewish Community Relations Council forum in Scottsdale, Jewish News reported, he said he would always support Israel’s defensive capabilities, including Iron Dome, and efforts to destroy Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houthis, adding, “The security of Israel is not up for debate,” and “We must keep Israel safe.”
A 1/2, not a clean 1. His own words are a reliable pro-Israel position — aid with no added restrictions and support for the war as necessary to “dismantle Hamas” — with concern for Palestinian civilians voiced only in passing (by Algemeiner’s account of the same paper he lamented civilian casualties in Gaza, and in June 2026 he said “We want dignity and security for all people involved”); his Jain commitment to non-violence is stated as a general reservation, and he places Israel’s war inside his exception for when war is necessary, so it is not daylight. There is no leadership on the issue: no authored Israel measure and no crackdown, and the DMFI and JDCA backing are endorsements, not leadership. The core record dates from 2024 and comes through Jewish Insider’s and Algemeiner’s accounts of a paper not published elsewhere; his October 2026 remarks at a Jewish community forum, as Jewish News reported them, run the same way: support for Iron Dome and for destroying Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houthis, “The security of Israel is not up for debate,” and nothing on Palestinian civilians. Counter-case: a flat 2, if his June 2026 words (“We want dignity and security for all people involved”) and the civilian casualties he lamented in 2024 (by Algemeiner’s account) are read as concern standing apart from his backing for the war.
