Ayanna Pressley
D · U.S. House, MA-7 · Tier 4
Tier 4, “Critical / conditions aid”
Original cosponsor of Block the Bombs (H.R. 3565) and Tlaib’s H.Res.876 genocide-recognition resolution; voted NO on the 2024 Israel military-aid package (H.R. 8034); an original cosponsor of the 2025 and 2026 Nakba and right-of-return resolutions (H.Res.409, one of only eight, and H.Res.1289, May 14, 2026), and a cosponsor of the 2024 Nakba and refugee-rights resolution (H.Res.1231) from the day after it was introduced; and one of the eight Democrats who voted NO on the 2021 Iron Dome supplemental (H.R. 5323). ‘We are talking about a horrific crisis—a genocide.’ In 2019 she was the only Squad member to vote to condemn BDS (H.Res.246) — never formally recanted, though her later record superseded it. She affirms Israel's right to exist and defend itself, backs a two-state solution, has framed her arms stance as offensive-weapons-only (a framing her own 2021 Iron Dome vote cuts against), though she voted for the July 15, 2026 Massie amendment stripping Israel’s military financing from the FY27 foreign-operations bill (roll 243), and on October 7, 2026 called for “cutting off U.S. taxpayer dollars to arm the Israeli military.” In October 2024 she campaigned for Harris in Erie, Pennsylvania, six months after telling the House that “history will remember this moment as a genocide.” She led the January 2024 letter with Jamie Raskin urging the State Department to affirm U.S. opposition to the forced displacement of Palestinians from Gaza and the August 2025 letter with Brittany Pettersen urging Secretary Rubio to demand a surge of infant formula into Gaza, and co-led with Senators Elizabeth Warren and Ed Markey the March 2025 letter on the arrest and detention of Tufts student Rümeysa Öztürk. She also signed the June 2024 letter backing refugee priority status for Gazans with U.S. citizen or permanent-resident relatives, the October 2024 letter urging President Biden to sanction Israeli ministers Smotrich and Ben-Gvir over incitement of settler violence, Tlaib’s June 2025 letter opposing the Israeli government’s use of starvation as a weapon and the U.S.-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, and the 2025 letters on the detentions of Mahmoud Khalil and Mohsen Mahdawi. In August and September 2026 Pressley signed Tlaib’s letter demanding the release of 20-year-old US citizen Sama Safi from Israeli military detention and the Dexter–Ruiz letter seeking the release of Gaza pediatrician Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya from Israeli detention without charge (Sep 8). She won the September 1, 2026 primary without an opponent on the ballot and is unopposed in November.
A flat 4. Her record in office reaches well toward the critical end. She is an original cosponsor of Block the Bombs (H.R. 3565) and of Tlaib’s H.Res.876 genocide-recognition resolution, cosponsors the joint resolutions of disapproval to block specific Israel arms sales, voted NO on the 2024 military-aid package, and uses “genocide” consistently, most recently in her October 7, 2026 statement on “the Israeli military’s genocide against the Palestinian people,” where she called for “cutting off U.S. taxpayer dollars to arm the Israeli military.” She voted for the July 15, 2026 Massie amendment stripping Israel’s military financing from the FY27 foreign-operations bill (roll 243) and signed the 27-member statement led by Jim McGovern, which grounds the vote in nearly six decades of occupation and in human-rights conditions that “have not been meaningfully enforced.” She has cosponsored Tlaib’s Nakba resolutions three years running: H.Res.1231 (2024, from the day after it was introduced), then H.Res.409 (2025, one of only eight) and H.Res.1289 (2026) as an original cosponsor. Cosponsoring them puts her on record for the right of return, a position that questions Israel’s legitimacy and reaches toward the Tier 6 end. She was also one of the eight Democrats who voted NO on the 2021 Iron Dome supplemental (H.R. 5323, roll 275, Sept 23, 2021), as André Carson did. Two things hold her at 4, the same two that hold Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez there. During the genocide she voted No on the July 2025 amendment to cut $500 million in Israel’s missile-defense aid. And in October 2024 she campaigned for Harris, six months after telling the House that “history will remember this moment as a genocide.” She also affirms Israel’s right to exist and defend itself, backs a two-state solution, has framed her arms stance as offensive-weapons-only (a framing her 2021 Iron Dome vote cuts against), and condemned the 2022 Boston Mapping Project. Her 2019 vote to condemn BDS (H.Res.246 — the only Squad member to do so, never formally recanted) stays in the record but is stale: it predates the genocide and is superseded by everything she has done since.
