Tier 1/2, between “Firmly pro-Israel” and “Mainstream pro-Israel”

Position

Retired Army major general and 2016 Trump foreign-policy adviser challenging Sen. Mark Warner on spending, taxes, immigration, energy and a pro-military platform. He left the Israel question in Virginia public media’s Senate questionnaire unanswered, but in Cardinal News’s 2026 voter-guide questionnaire he wrote: “No, I would not support an arms embargo against Israel. Israel is one of America's greatest allies, and we cannot allow them to become a sitting duck for their enemies who have vowed to destroy them.” On October 7, 2026 he posted: “Three years ago today, terrorists attacked Israel and murdered innocent civilians in their homes and at a music festival. As a combat veteran who spent decades in uniform, I know the cost of failing to confront such threats.”

Why this tier

A 1/2, on a thin record: two short statements. Asked in Cardinal News’s 2026 voter guide, he wrote “No, I would not support an arms embargo against Israel,” calling Israel “one of America's greatest allies” that cannot be left “a sitting duck for their enemies,” and his October 7, 2026 post mourned the civilians killed in the Hamas attack with no word for Gaza. Refusing an arms embargo is a position on weapons, not only ally words, and nothing in his record expresses concern for Palestinian civilians. He left the public-media questionnaire’s Israel question unanswered, and his Ballotpedia survey and primary Q&A never mention it. There is no leadership on the issue: no vote, bill or other act on Israel is on record. Counter-case: unrated until he says more.
