Bill Huizenga

R · U.S. House, MI-4 · Tier 1/2

Tier 1/2, between “Firmly pro-Israel” and “Mainstream pro-Israel”

Position

Foreign Affairs and Financial Services Republican who wrote the No U.S. Financing for Iran Act (H.R.5921), which passed the House 294-105 in April 2024 and which he called an effort to “stand up for Israel”; chairing a Financial Services oversight hearing on Iran’s funding of Hamas in October 2023, he said “innocent civilians should not be used as political cover” and “We must not waver in our support for our ally Israel.” He explained his April 2024 vote for the Israel package as ensuring Israel “has the resources to defend itself from Iran, Hamas, and additional terrorist proxy groups”, while voting against the Ukraine bill over cost. He voted for every tracked Israel measure — the 2023–24 supplementals, censuring Tlaib (days after defending her speech on First Amendment grounds and calling an earlier censure resolution “flawed”), H.Res.894, the Antisemitism Awareness Act, the bill forcing delivery of paused weapons, both ICC-sanctions bills and the September 2026 anti-boycott bill — and against the Greene (2025) and Massie (2026) cuts; he co-introduced the November 2025 resolution welcoming Kazakhstan into the Abraham Accords and was an original cosponsor of the July 2026 bill to replace UNRWA. In January 2024 he signed the Smith–Manning letter, whose signers “thoroughly reject” South Africa’s “charge of genocide” against Israel.

Why this tier

A 1/2, not a clean 1. Every tracked Israel vote is in line, and his one Gaza-civilian remark came wrapped in Hamas using civilians as cover and unwavering support for Israel, so there is no concern of his own for Palestinian civilians. He is short of a clean 1 because his authored bill targets Iran’s access to the US financial system rather than Israel policy itself, and co-introducing the Kazakhstan resolution and cosponsoring the anti-UNRWA bill are support, not leadership. Counter-case: a clean 1 if the Iran-financing bill, which he pitched as standing up for Israel, is read as authored Israel legislation.
