Tier 2/3, between “Mainstream pro-Israel” and “Pro-Israel, critical”

Position

On the second anniversary of October 7 (Oct 2025) he posted that “We must end this war and suffering in Gaza, bring the hostages home, and work toward peace” (as quoted by Jewish Insider). At an April 1, 2026 primary debate he called the October 7 attack horrible and said Israel has the right to defend itself, but added: “We need to concentrate more on the humanitarian aid that needs to get into Gaza. And that’s just not being done,” and — in the reporters’ paraphrase — said Israel needs to follow international law and be held accountable. A former Bethlehem firefighter and president of the Pennsylvania Professional Fire Fighters Association, he is backed by Gov. Josh Shapiro, Sen. Bernie Sanders and the Congressional Progressive Caucus PAC and listed by J Street PAC as “primary approved.”

Why this tier

A 2/3, not a clean 3. He keeps the pro-Israel frame (Israel’s right to defend itself) but adds daylight in his own words: end “this war and suffering in Gaza,” and the aid that “needs to get into Gaza” is “just not being done” — plus, per the debate report, that Israel must follow international law and be held accountable. That is criticism of the war’s conduct, short of any step on weapons. The record is thin — one social post and one debate answer, with the accountability line in paraphrase — so the counter-case runs both ways: a flat 2 on his quoted humanitarian words alone, or a clean 3 if the accountability demand is taken at face value.
