Tier 1/2, between “Firmly pro-Israel” and “Mainstream pro-Israel”

Position

Rejects conditions on military aid to Israel: “Israel is an ally of ours who we trust. I don’t see a reason for conditions,” likening aid to lending a neighbor a garden hose — “You give him the garden hose” (Jewish Insider, January 2026). He says Israel “like any country, has the right to defend itself” and the U.S. “should be willing to help them,” and as a county commissioner he joined an October 2023 statement to “stand in solidarity with the people of Israel.” His campaign said he would accept donations from any source when asked about AIPAC.

Why this tier

A 1/2, not a clean 1. He takes the zero-daylight position in his own words — an explicit refusal of conditions on aid, the right-to-defend frame, and an Israel that has had to fight “just to exist” — with concern for Palestinians voiced only as a general line at a January 2026 town hall (“Every Palestinian child has the same right” as Israeli children to grow up in a peaceful, safe country) and no word in the record found on Gaza’s civilians or the war’s toll, which rules out a flat 2, and he has not called it a genocide. But there is no leadership on the issue: a county commissioner's solidarity statement and a candidate's pledges are support, not authored legislation, anti-BDS enforcement, marquee fundraising or a hardline brand. Open to a flat 2 if a Gaza-civilian statement of his own surfaces.
