Tier 1/2, between “Firmly pro-Israel” and “Mainstream pro-Israel”
First-term member (since January 2025) who wrote the Right to Worship Act with Tom Suozzi (H.R.10052, Aug 2026), which would set 100-foot buffer zones around houses of worship during services and fine knowing disruptions; it is backed by the ADL, StandWithUs and other Jewish groups, he and Suozzi acknowledged that its reach to protests at synagogue events selling land in Israel and the West Bank would likely be litigated, and he said a sign reading “Israel, do better” inside the zone would still be lawful. He has voted the full pro-Israel line since taking office: for ICC sanctions over the Netanyahu and Gallant warrants (Jan 2025), against the 2025 Greene and 2026 Massie cuts, and for the September 2026 college anti-boycott bill. His 2024 campaign site had a “Stand with Israel” plank, since dropped from his priorities page, saying “We must stand by Israel” and “Any refugees from Gaza must go to Arab countries, not the USA.”
A 1/2, not a clean 1. Every Israel vote since he took office is pro-Israel and no concern for Palestinian civilians was found, so a flat 2 does not fit. The Right to Worship Act is his own bill, but it is written as a religious-liberty measure covering all houses of worship, not Israel legislation. Counter-case: a clean 1 if the bill, which could restrict protests such as those against West Bank land sales at synagogues, is read as leadership on Israel.
