Brent Taylor

R · U.S. House, TN-9 · Tier 1/2

Tier 1/2, between “Firmly pro-Israel” and “Mainstream pro-Israel”

Position

Trump-endorsed state senator with a consistent pro-Israel legislative record: he cosponsored and voted for Tennessee resolutions honoring Israel’s 75th anniversary (SJR 4, 2023), supporting Israel and condemning October 7 (SJR 870, 2024) and supporting “the Nation of Israel” (SJR 2, 2025), cosponsored a state antisemitism definition (SJR 3, 2025), and voted for the 2025 law requiring public schools and colleges to write the IHRA definition, with its contemporary examples, into their codes of conduct or antidiscrimination policies. On iVoterGuide in 2026 he wrote: “As a Christian, I believe the people of Israel are under God's covenant with Abraham and are His chosen people,” adding that Israel is “our strongest and most reliable ally in a very dangerous global neighborhood.” After a February 2024 Gaza-ceasefire march blocked Memphis's I-40 bridge, he asked the TBI to investigate and arrest the organizers.

Why this tier

A 1/2, not a clean 1. Every act within a state senator’s reach points to the pro-Israel end: he cosponsored and voted for three pro-Israel resolutions (2023, 2024, 2025) and a state antisemitism definition, and voted for the 2025 law writing the IHRA definition into school and college codes of conduct or antidiscrimination policies. He makes a covenant case for backing Israel, whose people he calls God’s “chosen people,” and has expressed no concern for Palestinian civilians. But he led none of it. Each resolution was led by another senator, with Taylor one of 11 to 32 co-sponsors, and his step against the Gaza-ceasefire movement was one letter: when a February 2024 march blocked Memphis’s I-40 bridge, he asked the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation to investigate and arrest the organizers, citing hospital access and consequences for “illegal protests.” Counter-case: a 1. The letter sought arrests, not just an inquiry; he wanted the organizers “prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law” and scoffed that closing the bridge could “bring about a ceasefire in the Middle East.”
