Brenton Awa
R · U.S. House, HI-2 · not rated
His only words on Israel are a spending complaint: asked by Hawaii News Now in October 2026 about the Iran war and aid to Israel, he said, “if we’re going to send billions of dollars to Israel or another country, my only concern is why isn’t that money coming to Hawaii,” and that he wants to serve one term because “I don’t care about all of those world policies and all the votes that’ll have to be taken. I’ll have to care when I am taking it.” The Hawaii Senate minority leader (a senator for Windward Oahu since 2022) and a former television journalist, he is challenging Jill Tokuda on food security, land and cost-of-living themes. When the state Senate adopted SR 6 SD1 in March 2024, urging an immediate and permanent Gaza ceasefire, the record lists one no (Sen. Kurt Fevella) and four ayes with reservations; Awa is not among them.
Not rated: his site (home, About, Issues, Media) states nothing on Israel or Gaza, and he did not complete Ballotpedia's survey. His one remark on Israel, in an October 2026 Hawaii News Now interview, is that money sent “to Israel or another country” should be coming to Hawaii instead (the station reported that he “wants money spent on the Iran war and support for Israel to instead go to American families dealing with disaster”) — a spending-priority complaint that names Israel alongside any other country and comes with “I don’t care about all of those world policies,” not a position on aid, arms or Gaza. Otherwise, his only Israel-related trace is that he is not recorded among the noes or reservations when the Hawaii Senate adopted SR 6 SD1 (March 21, 2024), which urged a permanent Gaza ceasefire and cited the ICJ's "plausible genocide" finding; the adoption record does not list excused members, so an aye vote is unconfirmed (he was excused when the Committee on Public Safety and Intergovernmental and Military Affairs, of which he was a member, voted 3–1 to recommend it on March 8, 2024), and a near-unanimous chamber vote would not place him on its own. Unrated until a position is stated.
