Brian Babin

R · U.S. House, TX-36 · Tier 1/2

Tier 1/2, between “Firmly pro-Israel” and “Mainstream pro-Israel”

Position

Texas Republican whose office described the October 2023 House resolution as support for Israel “in its just war against Hamas,” with Babin saying “Israel is the only democracy in a sea of dictatorships in the Middle East”; explaining his April 2024 votes on the foreign-aid package, including Yea on the Israel bill (H.R.8034), he said “Combatting Iran and supporting Israel helps prevent the next 9/11 while mitigating radical Islamic terror in the region.” He voted for the 2023–24 aid supplementals, H.Res.894, the Antisemitism Awareness Act, H.R.8369 against the 2024 arms pause, ICC sanctions (2024 and 2025) and the September 2026 anti-boycott bill, and against the 2025 Greene and 2026 Massie cuts. In 2019 he asked House committee chairs to deny Rashida Tlaib a congressional delegation to Palestine, which he called “Israel’s nemesis.” In January 2024 he signed the Smith–Manning letter, whose signers “thoroughly reject” South Africa’s “charge of genocide” against Israel.

Why this tier

A 1/2, not a clean 1. Since October 7 the record is reliable votes plus stand-with-Israel statements in the self-defense frame (“back its right to defend itself against Hamas”), with no statement of concern for Palestinian civilians, which rules out a flat 2. There is no leadership on the issue in the period: no authored Israel legislation, no caucus or fundraising role, and no Israel plank on his campaign site; his later statements are about the Iran strikes. Counter-case: a clean 1 if his 2019 effort to deny Tlaib a delegation to Palestine — “Israel’s nemesis” and “a belligerent group” in his letter — is weighed as a defining act, though it predates the war by nearly five years.
