Brian Romero

D · New York State Assembly, District 34 · Tier 4/5

Tier 4/5, between “Critical / conditions aid” and “Critical on most positions”

Position

Won the AD-34 primary (Jackson Heights/Corona/Astoria) to succeed his former boss Jessica González-Rojas. DSA member; supports the 'Not on Our Dime' bill and campaigns on a Queens that invests in people, "not in endless war and genocide in Gaza and abroad". WFP- and AOC-backed, he is a DSA member but was not DSA-endorsed. He has been arrested twice in civil disobedience for Palestine, and JVP lists him among the nominees present at its Sep 24, 2026 sit-in outside the UN as Netanyahu arrived.

Why this tier

A 4/5, on thin words and repeated acts. As the Democratic nominee for AD-34 he has no vote yet; City & State (October 2025) reports that he supports Not on Our Dime. In his own words, his campaign site calls for a Queens that invests in people, “not in endless war and genocide in Gaza and abroad.” His acts go further: City & State reports he has been arrested twice at Palestine-solidarity demonstrations, once in Washington, D.C., and once outside Senator Gillibrand’s New York office, and Jewish Voice for Peace lists him among the nominees present, though not among those arrested, at its September 2026 sit-in outside the UN demanding an end to arming Israel. What stops him short of 5 is that nothing in his own words would cut off U.S. weapons or military aid to Israel. Counter-case: 5, reading the arrests and his presence at that sit-in as acts that stand in for a cutoff; or 4, since his own words on the war come to one campaign-site line.
