Tier 3, “Pro-Israel, critical”
On his campaign page “Israel, the Iran war and AIPAC” (up since at least May 2026) he supports “the nation of Israel’s right to exist” and its security and a two-state solution, and says “Israel had every right to respond forcefully to the Oct. 7 Hamas attack” — but blames “the recent destruction of Gaza and the mass killing and dehumanization of innocent Palestinian civilians squarely on” Prime Minister Netanyahu and his government, and pledges: “I will not accept political contributions from AIPAC.” A former Oregon state representative and USDA rural-policy adviser, he also has the Independent Party of Oregon nomination and opposes the Iran war; in an October 2026 interview with The Source Weekly he said the U.S. should “Work with our allies to take us out of this hole that Trump and Hegseth and Israel have put us into.”
A 3, not a 2/3. He keeps the pro-Israel frame — Israel’s right to exist, its security, two states, a forceful response to October 7 — but goes past humanitarian concern to condemn the conduct of the war itself, “the recent destruction of Gaza and the mass killing and dehumanization of innocent Palestinian civilians,” and he refuses AIPAC money: supportive but critical. It is not 3/4, because he proposes no conditions on weapons or aid and lays the blame on Netanyahu’s government rather than on U.S. policy. The counter-case is 2/3: the criticism is pinned on Netanyahu and paired, in the same paragraph, with Israel’s right to respond forcefully.
