Tier 3, “Pro-Israel, critical”

Position

His campaign site’s detailed platform says: “I condemn the mass killing, forced displacement, deprivation and destruction inflicted on Palestinians in Gaza. I oppose the occupation and settlement policies that deny Palestinians their rights and prospects for self-determination in the West Bank.” It notes that Amnesty International “concluded in December 2024 that Israel was committing genocide in Gaza”, adding that “Legal findings by advocacy organizations are not the same as a final judgment by a competent court, but their findings demand serious attention and accountability.” Among the steps it supports are “An immediate and durable ceasefire whenever hostilities continue,” “The release of hostages and unlawfully detained people,” “An end to U.S. military assistance that facilitates serious violations of international humanitarian or human-rights law,” “Enforcement of U.S. and international laws governing arms transfers” and “An end to West Bank settlement expansion and forced displacement; ejection of illegal settlers.” A union truck driver and perennial Progressive and Pacific Green candidate running on Medicare for All, campaign finance reform and a state bank, he calls to “End Pointless Wars” and close foreign bases; his 2024 Ballotpedia survey speaks of “those suffering under military occupation abroad” without naming a country.

Why this tier

A 3, on a thin record: one platform plank. Plank 14 of his campaign site’s detailed platform, “Palestine and Israel: End the killing and enforce the law,” condemns “the mass killing, forced displacement, deprivation and destruction inflicted on Palestinians in Gaza,” opposes the occupation and settlements, and backs a ceasefire, “An end to U.S. military assistance that facilitates serious violations of international humanitarian or human-rights law” and “Enforcement of U.S. and international laws governing arms transfers.” That conditions weapons on Israel’s conduct. It never calls for ending military aid to Israel by name, and it reports Amnesty International’s genocide finding with a hedge (findings by advocacy organizations “are not the same as a final judgment by a competent court”) rather than naming the genocide in his own voice. His voters’ pamphlet statement, 2024 Ballotpedia survey and other site pages never name Israel, Gaza or Palestine; the Oregon Progressive Party’s “End wars against Iran and Gaza” is the party’s wording, not his. Counter-case: 3/4, on the plank’s breadth, which adds the “ejection of illegal settlers” and support for Palestinian self-determination.
