Dan Osborn
I · U.S. Senate, Nebraska · Tier 3
Tier 3, “Pro-Israel, critical”
An independent running against Pete Ricketts (R) in 2026 after losing to Deb Fischer in 2024. At an Omaha town hall in May 2026 he said he did not take AIPAC money and that “No bomb or bullet that says ‘made in the USA’ should ever drop on a school or hospital, period”; asked whether the war in Gaza is a genocide, he said “I’m not an expert on what a genocide is,” adding: “They’re starving people to death. This is a human tragedy, and we should not be complicit in it.” In February 2026, in A New Policy PAC’s release announcing its endorsement, he said “‘Made in the USA’ should be a point of pride, not a point of shame when it’s written on bombs that kill kids,” and in March he told Jewish Insider, “I will always stand against anti-Semitism.” Earlier, in April 2024, his spokesperson told The American Prospect that “Hamas is a terrorist group and Dan thinks Israel’s response was justified. At this point, Dan is concerned about mounting casualties and thinks America should do whatever it can to assist in bringing about a resolution and resume the long, hard road to stability,” and the Prospect reported that he backed conditions on military aid to Ukraine “but not yet for Israel.” His 2026 campaign platform (“Protect the Good Life”) calls for “ending the war in Iran and cutting off aid to Israel until they end their aggression against Gaza and their neighbors,” adding that “No weapon that says ‘Made in America’ should ever be used on a school or hospital.” In October 2026 his spokesperson told The Plains Sentinel that on civilian casualties “We have a duty to hold our allies to that standard, too,” and that “Netanyahu has done anything but that. We should demand better”; the outlet, arguing he has backed away from his 2024 support for Israel, reported that the spokesperson denied it and said “He stands strongly against antisemitism.” No statement of his calling it a genocide was found.
A 3, close to 3/4. His own 2026 platform calls for “ending the war in Iran and cutting off aid to Israel until they end their aggression against Gaza and their neighbors,” adding that “No weapon that says ‘Made in America’ should ever be used on a school or hospital,” and in his own words he says no U.S.-made bomb “should ever drop on a school or hospital, period,” and of Gaza, “They’re starving people to death. This is a human tragedy, and we should not be complicit in it” (May 2026). What holds him at 3: the cutoff is a conditional, written plank his recorded remarks don’t repeat; he would not call it a genocide (“I’m not an expert on what a genocide is”); his spokesperson said in April 2024 that Israel’s response to October 7 was justified, while voicing concern about mounting casualties; and when charged in October 2026 with backing away from Israel, his campaign answered with his opposition to antisemitism rather than the plank. Counter-case: 3/4, reading the platform as an end to aid argued on Israel’s conduct.
