Daniel J. Sullivan Jr.

R · U.S. Senate, Alaska · not rated

Position

A retired Petersburg elementary school teacher and former U.S. Forest Service forestry technician; a registered Republican, he is listed on the November ballot as Daniel J. Sullivan Jr. with no party label, and he is not the incumbent, Sen. Dan Sullivan, whom he is running to unseat. The Division of Elections disqualified him, finding he had not filed a “good-faith candidacy,” before the state courts put him back on the ballot (AP); he placed third in the August top-four primary with 2.47 percent. In the Alaska Public Media, KTOO, Alaska Beacon and Anchorage Daily News candidate questionnaire, which he posted on his campaign site, he completed the sentence “U.S. military aid to Israel should be” with “Carefully appropriated. However, addressing the complexity of geopolitics in the Middle East requires more than 5- 20 words.” He has called the war with Iran “ill-conceived.”

Why not rated

Not rated: the one statement on Israel is the 2026 questionnaire answer quoted above. It asks that military aid be “carefully appropriated” without saying whether it should continue, be conditioned or end, and says nothing about Gaza or Palestinians. Checked his official election-pamphlet statement, his campaign site’s press and blog pages (including his League of Women Voters questionnaire), iVoterGuide’s 2026 questionnaire (unanswered, including its question on the U.S. relationship with Israel) and AP’s July 2026 profile. Unrated until a position is stated.
