Tier 1/2, between “Firmly pro-Israel” and “Mainstream pro-Israel”
A coastal-Oregon state senator (SD-1) who won the May 2026 GOP Senate primary out of a seven-way field and faces Democratic incumbent Jeff Merkley in November — in a state that has not elected a Republican senator since 2002, when Gordon Smith won his second term. His campaign is entirely domestic (‘Serving Oregon First’: putting Oregon first, affordability, crime and public safety, homelessness, and wildfire prevention — there is no foreign-policy plank of any kind), and Willamette Week credits him with “a bipartisan record in the Legislature on bills supporting rural communities.” The only statement of his on Israel or Palestine found is a brief Oct 2023 solidarity message — condemning the terrorist attacks and standing with Israel and Jewish communities; no Gaza-specific position, arms/aid stance, or pro-Israel endorsement has surfaced.
A 1/2, on a thin record: one statement from the week of the Hamas attack. His October 12, 2023 Senate newsletter condemned “the abhorrent terrorist attacks on the Israeli people,” said he stands “with them and our Jewish communities” and prayed for “the men and women fighting for the people of Israel,” with no word for Palestinian civilians. There is no leadership on the issue: no Israel measure of his in the Oregon Senate was found, and his Senate campaign has no foreign-policy plank. Counter-case: unrated, since a week-of solidarity message states no policy on aid, weapons or Gaza.
