Don Tracy

R · U.S. Senate, Illinois · Tier 1/2

Tier 1/2, between “Firmly pro-Israel” and “Mainstream pro-Israel”

Position

Former Illinois Republican Party chair and the GOP Senate nominee. Asked in a September 2026 Shaw Local questionnaire about Iran, Ukraine and Israel, he wrote: “Israel has the right to defend itself against terrorists who want it destroyed. We stand with our ally, but American interests come first.” Illinois Public Media summarized a November 2025 interview, aired in December, as “Tracy supports Israel’s actions in Gaza”; in it, asked about calling Israel’s war in Gaza a genocide, he said “I think it’s absolutely wrong,” and that he had heard Israel “has done a better job of minimizing collateral damage than almost any other warring nation.”

Why this tier

A 1/2. His stated position is the standard pro-Israel frame — Israel's right to defend itself and standing with an ally — and IPM reports that he supports Israel's conduct in Gaza, with no expressed concern for Palestinian civilians; in that interview he called the genocide characterization “absolutely wrong.” “American interests come first” and “No endless wars” are an America-First hedge aimed mostly at Iran and Ukraine, not daylight on Israel. He has no Israel-related voting record and no leadership on the issue, and no RJC listing was found. Open to a flat 2 only if a Gaza-civilian statement surfaces.
