Tier 1/2, between “Firmly pro-Israel” and “Mainstream pro-Israel”
Repeat Republican challenger to Adam Smith who centered his 2026 primary on stopping Kshama Sawant, telling JNS in July that she and Democrat Melissa Chaudhry are “antisemitic” — “They see Israel as an oppressor” — and posting that “Hamas is a terrorist organization, if possible worse than the Nazis of World War II.” After the primary he told JNS “I strongly support our Jewish community and I strongly support Israel, our ally” and called “Pro-Hamas groups” bullies.
A 1/2. His statements are zero-daylight — strong support for Israel, attacks on its critics as antisemitic, and no expressed concern for Palestinian civilians — with no office, votes or Israel legislation behind them. The hardline rhetoric (including a claim that “Marxists are working with radical Muslims” to “defeat America”) is aimed at a local socialist opponent rather than a brand built on Israel policy, so it is not treated as leadership on the issue; it could be weighed toward 1.
