Tier 2/3, between “Mainstream pro-Israel” and “Pro-Israel, critical”

Position

A West Point graduate, Gulf War Army veteran and businessman who has served on his local city council and school board, challenging Rep. Jeff Hurd, he runs on affordability, rural hospitals, anti-corruption measures and ending “Trump’s reckless war in Iran.” The Colorado Sun’s October 2026 voter guide reports that he supports aid for Israel “in a defensive posture,” including weapons that support Israel’s defense, which he counts as “humanitarian aid,” and that he wants humanitarian aid reinstated across the world, not just for Gaza. In the paper’s June 2026 primary guide he backed military funding for Israel “from a defensive perspective, but I do not want to see it so aggressive and offensive where it brings civilians into harm’s way,” and called civilians on both sides being harmed and killed “beyond the pale.”

Why this tier

A 2/3, on a thin record: two voter-guide answers. Asked in The Colorado Sun’s June 2026 primary guide whether U.S. military funding for Israel should continue, and with what conditions, he said “Yes, from a defensive perspective, but I do not want to see it so aggressive and offensive where it brings civilians into harm’s way.” He added that “there are times when a good nation (has) a bad administration” and called people in Gaza and Israel, “on both sides,” being harmed and killed “beyond the pale.” That confines his support to Israel’s defense and criticizes offensive use that harms civilians and, by implication, Israel’s government. But he names no weapon he would withhold and no bill, and in the paper’s October guide, by its account, he backed aid “in a defensive posture,” including weapons for Israel’s defense, which he counts as “humanitarian aid.” Counter-cases: 3, if limiting support to defense is read as stopping offensive weapons; 2, since “I do not want to see” commits to nothing and he called Israel “a very strong and consistent strategic partner.”
