Ed Gallrein

R · U.S. House, KY-4 · Tier 1/2

Tier 1/2, between “Firmly pro-Israel” and “Mainstream pro-Israel”

Position

A retired Navy SEAL with no prior federal office whose primary win was the pro-Israel lobby’s flagship 2026 pickup: three super PACs spent $15.5 million to elect Gallrein — $8 million of it from AIPAC’s United Democracy Project ($4.1 million, mostly on ads attacking Massie) and the RJC’s Victory Fund, the rest from MAGA KY, a Trump-adviser PAC whose largest donor was Paul Singer — in the most expensive House primary in history ($37 million in all), explicitly to defeat Thomas Massie, a House Republican who says he has never voted for foreign aid to Israel and who criticized the lobby. He won 54.9–45.1%; AIPAC publicly claimed the win, congratulating him for ‘defeating anti-Israel incumbent Thomas Massie.’ Trump-endorsed, with Defense Secretary Hegseth campaigning for him. He faces Democrat Melissa Strange and Libertarian Jeremy Todd in November.

Why this tier

A 1/2, on a thin record of his own words. Asked by iVoterGuide in his 2024 Kentucky state-senate race whether the U.S. relationship with Israel is important, he wrote that as a veteran who served in the Middle East he knows “why maintaining a relationship with a partner like Israel is important to stability in the region,” called Israel “a friend who is holding the line in a dangerous part of the world” and said “I proudly stand with Israel and the Jewish people.” That is unqualified support with no word for Palestinian civilians, so not a flat 2. Nothing in his record is leadership on the issue: he has held no federal office and written no Israel measure, and the record sums spent to elect him were other people’s money, not an act of his own. Counter-case: none on the present record.
