Tier 5, “Critical on most positions”

Position

AD-50 incumbent (Greenpoint/Williamsburg), won the June 23, 2026 Democratic primary with 85% over Andrew Bodiford and is unopposed in November. A self-identified democratic socialist and member of the NYC-DSA ‘Socialists in Office’ caucus, cosponsor of the Not on Our Dime Act, and an early voice for a Gaza ceasefire (Oct 2023). DSA / JFREJ / WFP-endorsed. Gallagher was arrested at the Sep 24, 2026 sit-in outside the UN against Netanyahu’s address (CBS New York, citing police sources), and she cosponsors A11289, the version of the Not on Our Dime bill that Diana Moreno introduced on May 8, 2026.

Why this tier

A 5, on her own acts and words as an assemblymember. On September 24, 2026 she was arrested at the sit-in outside the UN against Netanyahu’s address, which Jewish Voice for Peace staged “calling on the world to stop arming Israel”; JVP and CBS New York both name her among those arrested. She cosponsors Not on Our Dime (A6101 and the May 2026 version, A11289), and she names the genocide in her own voice: in June 2026 she wrote that she was among the first elected officials to call for a ceasefire in Gaza “because I believed then, as I do now, that ending the genocide and working toward just and lasting peace is critical.” She also co-signed the April 2024 Socialists in Office statement naming the genocide in Gaza and Israeli apartheid. What keeps her at 5 rather than 5/6 is that she holds no position questioning Israel’s legitimacy: no BDS by name, anti-Zionist self-identification or support for the right of return. Counter-case: 4/5, since the demand to stop arming Israel was the organizers’, and no words of her own take a position on U.S. weapons or military aid.
