Eric Burlison

R · U.S. House, MO-7 · Tier 1

Tier 1, “Firmly pro-Israel”

Position

An original cosponsor of Bob Good's resolution “Denouncing calls for a cease-fire in Gaza” (H.Res.1057, Mar 2024), which also condemns calls for an independent Palestinian state and calls for ending U.S. assistance to Palestinian relief agencies and NGOs until an independent investigation is completed, and of Anna Paulina Luna's Stand with Israel Act defunding the UN Human Rights Council until the UN condemns Hamas (Oct 2023); he also cosponsored Tom Tiffany's GAZA Act barring Palestinian Authority passport holders (Oct 2023), and in April 2024 led a letter urging donors to stop funding Columbia University over campus antisemitism. He voted for all three aid packages (Nov 2023, Feb 2024, Apr 2024), the Tlaib censure, H.Res.894, the bill forcing delivery of the paused bomb shipment, the January 2025 ICC sanctions, the ban on citing Gaza Health Ministry casualty figures and the September 2026 college anti-boycott bill, and against the 2025 Greene and 2026 Massie cuts. His one split, a Nay on the Antisemitism Awareness Act (May 2024), came with no public explanation that has surfaced.

Why this tier

A 1. Burlison has led twice against Gaza and the protests over it. During the Columbia encampment in April 2024 he led a letter, joined by 14 other Republicans, calling on donors to pull their support from the university, and in his statement on it asked “Why would donors continue writing checks to subsidize illiterate morons?” In June 2024 he filed a defense-bill amendment barring funds “from going to Gaza until the terrorist group Hamas has been destroyed and no longer threatens Israel.” His cosponsorships sit at the hardline edge: an original cosponsor of the resolution denouncing calls for a ceasefire in Gaza and a Palestinian state, and of the Stand with Israel Act, and a cosponsor of the GAZA Act barring Palestinian Authority passport holders. His votes are zero-daylight apart from an unexplained Nay on the Antisemitism Awareness Act (May 2024), and there is no concern for Palestinian civilians in his own words. Counter-case: a 1/2, since the amendment was not made in order and the donor letter was pitched as a stand against campus antisemitism.
