Erik Osberg

D · U.S. House, MN-7 · Tier 2

Tier 2, “Mainstream pro-Israel”

Position

At the October 15, 2026 debate, after Rep. Michelle Fischbach called Israel “one of our only allies in the Middle East,” he answered: “I agree that Israel can be an ally, but what we need to differentiate from is, again, acts of aggression by Netanyahu. If there’s an act of aggression, that doesn’t mean we have to stand idly by and let that go where they want to take it. So we need to stand with our allies, but we need to be careful.” He has stated no position on aid or weapons to Israel, Gaza or Palestinians. His campaign answered “Does Erik take money from AIPAC?” with “The answer is no” (September 2026). Endorsed by the DFL Rural Caucus and the Minnesota AFL-CIO, he runs on health care, education, agriculture, workers' rights and getting corporate money out of politics.

Why this tier

A thin 2. His words on Israel come from the October 15, 2026 debate. Asked about the Middle East, he said “we need to stand with our allies”; after Rep. Michelle Fischbach called Israel “one of our only allies in the Middle East,” he answered: “I agree that Israel can be an ally, but what we need to differentiate from is, again, acts of aggression by Netanyahu. If there’s an act of aggression, that doesn’t mean we have to stand idly by.” That is qualified support: Israel “can be” an ally, and he would not simply go along with its government’s aggression. He names no step on aid or weapons and says nothing about Gaza or Palestinians; his campaign says he takes no AIPAC money. On a thin record: one debate answer; his priority pages and Ballotpedia page never mention Israel. Counter-cases: a 1/2, since apart from the Netanyahu criticism what remains is a call to stand with allies; or a 2/3, reading “stand idly by” as conditioning support on conduct, though he never says what that would mean for aid.
