Ethan Baker

R · U.S. House, MI-11 · Tier 1/2

Tier 1/2, between “Firmly pro-Israel” and “Mainstream pro-Israel”

Position

Troy mayor and the MI-11 Republican nominee. His one documented policy statement on Israel (Downtown Newsmagazine questionnaire, Sept 2026) calls Israel “an important ally of the United States, and we need to stand by our allies”, then adds that Congress must “provide real oversight when American weapons and taxpayer dollars are involved” and that “We can support Israel while still asking tough questions and demanding accountability.” His campaign site’s issues page does not mention Israel or Gaza. Asked about a recording, which his Democratic opponent Jeremy Moss calls manipulated, in which a voice says “the entire purpose of my campaign is to make sure America continues to support Israel,” Baker said Moss should explain it and added, “I don’t believe someone who is running for U.S. Congress should limit their sole purpose to one issue” (Daily Caller, Aug 11, 2026); an October 2, 2026 statement on his campaign site makes the same point.

Why this tier

A 1/2, on a thin record. He states support for Israel as “an important ally” the U.S. must “stand by” and adds that Congress must provide “real oversight” of American weapons and taxpayer dollars — a call for accountability, but not a condition on arms, a critique of how the war has been fought, or any expressed concern for Palestinian civilians. With no leadership on the issue and no civilian concern, he sits at 1/2; a concrete conditioning pledge would move him toward 2/3.
