Tier 1/2, between “Firmly pro-Israel” and “Mainstream pro-Israel”
On his campaign Substack (July 18, 2026) he attacked Rep. Deborah Ross for voting to cut off military aid to Israel — “I stand with Israel as our ally,” “Cutting aid to Israel doesn’t make us safer” — and faulted her for aligning with “the ones who sympathize with the Palestinians.” A retired chemistry professor, he is the GOP nominee against Ross; his Ballotpedia surveys center on small government, abortion and gender issues. In his 2026 general-election iVoterGuide questionnaire he called Israel an ally and wrote that “those countries that want to destroy Israel as a country want to do the same with us. Romans 11 makes clear the Jewish people are still God's favored, and a remnant remains.”
A 1/2, not a clean 1. His stated position is zero-daylight: keep military aid flowing to Israel, with sympathy for Palestinians treated as a mark against his opponent and no concern for Palestinian civilians. It rests on campaign posts, a PBS North Carolina interview and a questionnaire answer grounding his support in scripture (“Romans 11 makes clear the Jewish people are still God's favored”), not on leadership — no office, no authored legislation, no lobby fundraising operation, no Israel-centered brand.
