George Latimer
D · U.S. House, NY-16 · Tier 2
Tier 2, “Mainstream pro-Israel”
Won NY-16 by defeating Jamaal Bowman in 2024 with ~$2.8M bundled/conduited via AIPAC PAC across the 2024 cycle (~$2.7M of it already delivered before primary day); AIPAC’s super PAC (UDP) spent ~$14.5M in the race (~$9.9M opposing Bowman + ~$4.64M backing Latimer) — more than any non-party group had ever spent on a House race. He ruled out negotiating a ceasefire with Hamas on the ground that it is a terrorist organization (per the Associated Press). On Sep 1, 2026 Latimer cosponsored the West Bank Violence Prevention Act (H.R.3045), which would sanction perpetrators of settler violence in the West Bank and officials connected to it. In a September 2025 interview with Jewish Insider after a trip to Israel, he said “The fact that people are starving is horrific” and “Israel is not doing enough to solve the problem,” while blaming Hamas for obstructing aid. That month he also joined most House Democrats on the Schneider–Raskin letter urging Netanyahu’s government “to refrain from steps toward unilateral annexation” of West Bank territory.
A 2, resting on a single interview. Latimer won NY-16 in 2024 with record AIPAC backing: its super PAC spent about $14.5 million in the primary, most of it against Jamaal Bowman. He votes the pro-Israel line: a Yea on the January 2025 ICC-sanctions bill, Nays on both June 2026 Lebanon war-powers resolutions, a No on the July 2026 Massie amendment and a Yea on the September 2026 anti-boycott bill, which most Democrats opposed. But he has written no Israel legislation, and in his own words he has faulted Israel’s handling of Gaza’s hunger: “The fact that people are starving is horrific,” “Israel is not doing enough to solve the problem,” and he does not see proposals to relocate Gaza’s population as “humane” (September 2025, after an AIPAC-affiliated trip to Israel; Jewish Insider is the only source). In September 2026 he cosponsored the West Bank Violence Prevention Act. Counter-case for 1/2: in the same interview he stressed Hamas’s responsibility: “as long as the world blames Israel for it solely, Hamas is winning.”
