George Whitesides
D · U.S. House, CA-27 · Tier 2
Tier 2, “Mainstream pro-Israel”
First-term Democrat (2025) whose House and campaign sites carry no statement on Israel or Gaza; as a candidate he joined Santa Clarita’s Jewish community on the October 7 anniversary “to show our support for Israel, our solidarity against anti-Semitism” (Oct 2024), and in office he attended a Celebration of Israel festival (Feb 2025). He voted against the July 2025 Greene amendment to cut Israeli missile-defense aid and the July 2026 Massie amendment to strip Israel’s military financing, voted against the September 2026 anti-boycott university bill and did not vote on the January 2025 ICC-sanctions bill. He cosponsored the U.S.–Israel Defense Partnership Act (Aug 2025) and the West Bank Violence Prevention Act (Jul 2026), and signed the September 2025 letter of House Democrats opposing West Bank annexation. In July 2026 he signed the letter to Netanyahu protesting the settler fence that blocks Umm al-Kheir’s children from their school and the soldiers who “shot tear gas toward the children.”
A 2, on a thin record: one letter on the Israeli military’s conduct. Whitesides has made no policy statement of his own on Israel or Gaza in office; as a candidate he joined a Santa Clarita event in support of Israel on the first anniversary of October 7. He voted against the 2025 Greene and 2026 Massie cuts to Israel’s military aid and cosponsored the U.S.–Israel Defense Partnership Act (August 2025), but voted against the September 2026 anti-boycott bill and cosponsored the West Bank Violence Prevention Act (July 2026). He has led no Israel legislation. What places him at 2 is the July 2026 letter he signed to Netanyahu condemning the settler fence that blocks Umm al-Kheir’s children from their school and the soldiers who “shot tear gas toward the children,” whose actions, it says, raise “serious questions about how the Israeli military is abetting extremist violence.” It presses Israel’s own conduct without invoking its self-defense. Counter-case for 1/2: it is a single co-signed letter, and the September 2025 annexation letter he also signed affirms Israel’s right to defend its people.
