Gerald Malloy

R · U.S. House, Vermont at-large · Tier 1/2

Tier 1/2, between “Firmly pro-Israel” and “Mainstream pro-Israel”

Position

A West Point graduate and 22-year Army veteran, he was the GOP Senate nominee in 2022 and 2024. In his July 2024 VTDigger questionnaire he wrote that “the US should support its ally Israel in the Middle East with military equipment in defeating the terrorist organization Hamas”; in September 2024 he said “I stand by Israel to defend itself against the terrorists that attacked it” and called Sanders’s resolutions to block offensive arms sales “yet another going nowhere publicity stunt.” In 2026 he told iVoterGuide the relationship matters because “many Americans have ties to Israel and Israel contributes to improving the security and economy of the United States,” and in August 2026 he said he supported the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran, though by an October 8 debate he was criticizing how it was planned and calling for a ceasefire and a peace agreement.

Why this tier

A 1/2, not a clean 1. Across three campaigns his record is unqualified support: arms for Israel’s war on Hamas, open opposition to Sanders’s bids to block offensive weapons sales, and attacks on Vermont’s delegation for skipping Netanyahu’s 2024 address to Congress. He expresses no concern for Palestinian civilians, so a flat 2 is not available. But he has never held office or written Israel legislation, and attacking a critic is positioning, not the kind of leadership (authored legislation, fundraising, enforcement or a hardline Israel brand) that marks a clean 1.
