Greg Landsman

Tier 1/2, between “Firmly pro-Israel” and “Mainstream pro-Israel”
Jewish Democrat who has made Israel a signature cause: he co-led the September 2025 Auchincloss letter urging Secretary Rubio to press Hamas through the Arab League, co-led with Josh Gottheimer a July 2026 letter urging suspension of U.S. military training aid to Malaysia unless it reversed its deportation of Israelis (“The purge of Jews has begun,” he said in a July 18 statement), was one of three Democratic original cosponsors of the Stand with Israel Act (Aug 2024), and signed the December 2024 statement calling Amnesty International’s genocide findings “slanderous claims.” His votes cross most of his party on nearly every contested measure: Yea on the Republican aid bills H.R.6126 (Nov 2023) and H.R.7217 (Feb 2024), the Tlaib censure, H.R.8369, both ICC-sanctions bills, the casualty-figures amendment and the September 2026 anti-boycott bill, and No on the July 2026 Massie amendment. In January 2024 he wrote that “To imply that Israel’s war against Hamas is actually an attempt to eliminate Palestinians in Gaza assigns an incorrect intent to Israel’s actions,” in a passage warning against “conspiracies implicating Jews as murderers — or blood libel.” He also authored a November 2023 resolution condemning calls by members of Congress to expel Palestinians from the United States, offered an amendment to add Palestinian humanitarian aid to H.R.7217 (Feb 2024), and signed the August 2025 letter seeking medical visas for Gaza’s children and, with most House Democrats, the September 2025 letter urging Netanyahu’s government “to refrain from steps toward unilateral annexation” of the West Bank. On the third anniversary of October 7 he said “The war that followed has claimed the lives of far too many innocent Palestinians. Gaza is in ruins and a humanitarian crisis persists,” adding that “the Palestinians must be able to pursue a future free from the terrorism of Hamas” (Oct 7, 2026). In January 2024 he signed the Smith–Manning letter, whose signers “thoroughly reject” South Africa’s “charge of genocide” against Israel, and later that year letters urging Speaker Johnson to put the Senate’s aid package, with its aid to Israel, to “an immediate vote” (April), asking the Treasury and State Departments to designate as terrorists and sanction UNRWA employees who took part in the October 7 attacks (May), and warning the UN Secretary-General that U.S. support for the UN would be cut if Israel’s General Assembly status were reduced (October).
A 1/2, not a clean 2. He crosses most of his party to back Israel’s arms: Yea on both Republican aid bills (H.R.6126, H.R.7217), the Tlaib censure, forcing the paused bombs, both ICC-sanctions bills and the 2026 anti-boycott bill; No on the 2026 Massie cut. He rejects the genocide finding in his own words (it “assigns an incorrect intent to Israel’s actions”), co-led the 2025 Arab League and 2026 Malaysia letters, and in 2024 signed Smith–Manning and letters for the Senate aid package, terror sanctions on UNRWA staff and a warning to the UN over Israel’s standing. About $1.18 million has come through AIPAC’s PAC since 2024. His humanitarian steps sit beside that support for arming Israel: the Palestinian aid amendment to H.R.7217, the Gaza medical-visas letter, and his October 2026 words that the war “has claimed the lives of far too many innocent Palestinians.” Counter-case: 2, since he led none of the 2024 letters, while H.Res.895 (his resolution condemning calls to expel Palestinians), his aid amendment and the anniversary statement, with no self-defense language, are his own.
