Tier 2, “Mainstream pro-Israel”

Position

A Coast Guard veteran and former national-security aide in the Vice President's office. His February 2026 statement on the U.S. strikes on Iran says he stands with the Iranian people and would “support Israel’s security” while opposing “a reckless rush to war”; in August 2026 he told Stet News that “the conversation about Israel now is to agree that they probably don’t need subsidies,” with arms sales then weighed “as long as we are keeping with U.S. laws.” No statement on Gaza, the genocide or Palestinian civilians found.

Why this tier

A 2, on a thin record: one newspaper interview, a campaign statement on the strikes on Iran and an August 2026 attack on his primary opponent’s Anti-Zionist America PAC endorsement (“You can have legitimate criticisms of Israel’s government yet still think it has the right to exist”), and no votes. In August 2026 he told Stet News that “the conversation about Israel now is to agree that they probably don’t need subsidies,” after which the question becomes whether to “sell arms to them as long as we are keeping with U.S. laws” — an end to U.S. military financing, with sales of weapons to Israel left open, and nothing said against Israel’s conduct. He has said nothing about Gaza, Palestinian civilians or the genocide. No leadership on the issue. Counter-case: 1/2, since “probably” stops short of a pledge to end the aid.
