Jeff Van Drew
R · U.S. House, NJ-2 · Tier 1
Tier 1, “Firmly pro-Israel”
Writes and leads pro-Israel measures: he introduced H.Res.789 condemning Hamas and affirming Israel’s right to defend itself (Oct 2023) and H.Res.1224 condemning Biden’s threat to withhold aid as Israel moved on Rafah (May 2024) — “Even the threat of withholding essential aid and military assistance to our steadfast ally, Israel, is completely unacceptable,” blaming the pause on Biden’s “radical and anti-Semitic base” — and led H.Res.481 on antisemitic violence, which passed the House in June 2025. He says U.S. support for Israel “cannot be conditional” (Apr 2024), demanded the “Immediate Expulsion of Terrorist Sympathizers” from Columbia after a Columbia University Apartheid Divest protest while backing federal defunding of colleges that allow “anti-semitic events” (Nov 2024), and in July 2026 became an original cosponsor of the bill to replace UNRWA (H.R.9680). He voted for every tracked Israel measure he was present for and against the 2025 Greene and 2026 Massie cuts. In January 2024 he signed the Smith–Manning letter, whose signers “thoroughly reject” South Africa’s “charge of genocide” against Israel.
A clean 1. Van Drew authors Israel measures rather than only voting for them — resolutions backing Israel after October 7 and condemning the 2024 arms pause, plus the House-passed antisemitism resolution he led — and pairs them with hardline framing: support that “cannot be conditional,” the pause blamed on an “anti-Semitic base,” and student divestment protesters labeled terrorist sympathizers. Where his record mentions harm to Palestinian civilians, it blames Hamas alone (his May 2024 resolution says Hamas uses civilians as human shields, “intentionally causing incidental deaths and injuries to Gazan civilians”), and his 2026 cosponsorship of the bill to replace UNRWA points the same way; no counter-case toward 1/2 is apparent.
