Jeffrey Dinowitz

D · New York State Assembly, District 81 · Tier 1/2

Tier 1/2, between “Firmly pro-Israel” and “Mainstream pro-Israel”

Position

A2139-A (IHRA codification) cosponsor, a signatory of the October 20, 2023 “New York Legislators Stand With Israel” letter, and chair of the Codes Committee when A2139-A was reported favorably 20-0 on June 9, 2025 — he is recorded Aye. Won the June 23, 2026 primary against WFP-backed Morgan Evers. In his own voice: the BDS movement “is too often motivated more by anti-Semitism than by Israeli policy” (2019), the NYC-DSA questionnaire is “blatantly anti-Semitic” (2020), and in October 2025, welcoming the ceasefire, he wrote that “so many in the anti-Israel ‘ceasefire now’ crowd are strangely silent now that we reached a ceasefire. Perhaps this shows that their real goal was not, in fact, a ceasefire.” On October 21, 2026, with Rep. Ritchie Torres and two other Bronx officials, he signed a joint statement against a protest the group Pal-Awda planned at an Israeli real-estate event in Riverdale, saying the group was “targeting Jewish families in our borough simply for gathering together,” that “Organizing a campaign to hunt down these gatherings and drive them out of our neighborhoods is an attack on Jewish New Yorkers,” and that “the Bronx will not tolerate it.”

Why this tier

Held at the 1/2 edge rather than a clean 1 because he has written no Israel legislation. He has the same A2139-A cosponsorship as Rozic, but where Berger wrote that bill and Rozic pairs it with authorship of her own (the anti-academic-boycott bill and K509) and the organising against Not on Our Dime, he has cosponsored, signed and voted, and spoken in his own voice in 2019, 2020 and October 2025. But the cosponsorship is not his only current-session datapoint: he multi-sponsored K509 in May 2025, and on June 9, 2025 he chaired the Codes Committee that reported A2139-A favorably 20-0, voting Aye himself. Cosponsoring, signing and a committee vote, even as chair, are not authorship, so he sits a half-step short, at 1/2.
