Jim McDermott
I · U.S. House, Alaska at-large · not rated
No documented position on Israel, Gaza or Palestine found. A retired Air Force senior NCO and University of Alaska business instructor, the Libertarian nominee for the seat in 2012, 2014 and 2016, he is on the November ballot as a replacement after four other candidates withdrew; his 2014 platform said the government should “stop giving billions of our tax dollars to nations that hate us” and that “Military action should only be employed when our homeland is threatened.” His 2026 site says the United States “should not serve as the world’s policeman” and, “On recent U.S. strikes in the Middle East,” that “these commitments require a clear-eyed accounting of cost, consequence, and constitutional authority,” without naming Israel. In iVoterGuide’s 2016 questionnaire he answered “Neutral” to “The United States should help defend Israel from attack by its enemies.”
Not rated: no documented individual position on Israel and Palestine. His Ballotpedia profile has no 2026 survey and quotes only his 2014 platform, and the domain it lists as his campaign site now carries a third party’s re-creation of that 2014 site rather than a 2026 campaign; his 2026 site, jamesmcdermott.org, has a defense and foreign-policy section that names no country. He left iVoterGuide’s 2026 questionnaire unanswered, its Israel question included. His aid line is a blanket stance on foreign aid that names no country, so it says nothing about Israel in particular. Unrated until a position on Israel is stated.
