Johnny Olszewski

D · U.S. House, MD-2 · Tier 2

Tier 2, “Mainstream pro-Israel”

Position

Firmly pro-Israel spine: took the Aug 2025 AIPAC trip, DMFI- and J Street-endorsed, reaffirms Israel’s right to defend itself, and backed Israel’s June 2025 strikes on Iran. But he voted against the January 2025 ICC-sanctions bill and pressed Netanyahu directly on attacks on journalists and settler violence, calling the answers unsatisfactory, and says the war “needs to end now”. On Sep 24, 2026 Olszewski signed a 72-member House letter urging Netanyahu to contain settler violence in the West Bank, prosecute attacks on Palestinians and “halt further settlement approvals,” written “out of concern for Israel’s long-term security as well as for the safety of Palestinians.” He cosponsored the U.S.-Israel Defense Partnership Act (H.R.1229, Mar 21, 2025), the West Bank Violence Prevention Act (H.R.3045, Sep 30, 2025) and the Jewish American Security Act (H.R.9211, Jul 30, 2026), an antisemitism bill.

Why this tier

A 2. His record is firmly pro-Israel: the August 2025 AIPAC trip, AIPAC, DMFI and J Street endorsements, “I reaffirm my support for the State of Israel” and its right to defend itself, backing for Israel’s June 2025 strikes on Iran, cosponsorship of the U.S.-Israel Defense Partnership Act, and a No on the July 2026 Massie amendment. In the 2026 cycle $36,982 in direct and earmarked money has reached him through AIPAC’s PAC. What makes him a 2 rather than 1/2 is concern for Gaza in his own words — “what’s happening in Gaza is tragic. There’s far too little humanitarian aid being distributed. The war needs to end” — and pressing Netanyahu in person over attacks on journalists and settler violence. His Nays on the January 2025 ICC-sanctions bill and the September 2026 anti-boycott bill were cast with most House Democrats (140 of 185 and 167 of 200 voting Nay), and he has taken no step to withhold weapons. Counter-case for 2/3: he also cosponsored the West Bank Violence Prevention Act and signed the September 2026 settler-violence letter and the September 2025 Schneider–Raskin letter to Netanyahu opposing West Bank annexation, which most House Democrats signed.
