Josh Brecheen

R · U.S. House, OK-2 · Tier 1/2

Tier 1/2, between “Firmly pro-Israel” and “Mainstream pro-Israel”

Position

After October 7 he wrote that “we must do everything in our power to ensure Israel has the necessary resources to obliterate Hamas” and that “Israel's loss of full control of the strategically important Gaza Strip has undermined Israeli peace” (Oct 2023); he led a letter urging Biden to oppose paroling Palestinians into the U.S. “en masse” (Oct 2023), and after Netanyahu's July 2024 address said “Israel needs to be given the leeway to finish this war on its terms.” He was an original cosponsor of Bob Good's resolution denouncing calls for a Gaza ceasefire and a Palestinian state (Mar 2024) and of Anna Paulina Luna's Stand with Israel Act (Oct 2023), and cosponsored the GAZA Act barring Palestinian Authority passport holders (Oct 2023) and Claudia Tenney's RECOGNIZING Judea and Samaria Act, which bars federally funded materials from calling the area the West Bank (Jul 2025). He voted for all three aid packages (Nov 2023, Feb 2024, Apr 2024), the Tlaib censure, H.Res.894, the bill forcing delivery of the paused bomb shipment, ICC sanctions (Jun 2024), the ban on citing Gaza Health Ministry casualty figures and the September 2026 college anti-boycott bill, and against the Greene and Massie cuts; his one split, a Nay on the Antisemitism Awareness Act (May 2024), came with no public explanation that has surfaced.

Why this tier

A 1/2, not a clean 1. His votes are zero-daylight apart from the unexplained Antisemitism Awareness Act Nay, and his words and cosponsorships sit at the hardline edge — “obliterate Hamas,” letting Israel “finish this war on its terms,” opposing Palestinian parole and statehood, and renaming the West Bank. There is no concern for Palestinian civilians in his own words, which rules out a flat 2. He has authored no Israel legislation; the parole letter he led is a signature initiative but not legislation, so he has not clearly led on the issue the way the members at 1 have. Counter-case: a clean 1 if the parole letter and the Judea and Samaria cosponsorship are read as a hardline brand.
