Tier 3, “Pro-Israel, critical”
In August 2025 he said the response in Gaza “has been disproportionate” and “I don’t think that taxpayer dollars or United States support should be going toward the hurting or killing of children or civilians or certainly not impeding aid going into these areas,” while still calling Israel an ally, in The Gazette’s paraphrase; in the Iowa House he backed a (failed) amendment conditioning the resolution’s support for Israel’s campaign on humanitarian law, then voted for the underlying pro-Israel resolution; his campaign declined to comment on suspending arms sales, Jewish Insider reported. No statement of his using the word ‘genocide’ was found.
A soft flat 3, sitting close to the 2/3 line. What carries him over into a genuine 3 is a conditioning position: in the Iowa House he backed an amendment that would have conditioned support for Israel’s campaign on “adherence to international humanitarian law and protection of innocent civilian lives”, and he says the response has been “disproportionate” and that “taxpayer dollars or United States support” should not be “going toward the hurting or killing of children or civilians.” What keeps it soft, close to 2/3: the amendment failed and he then voted for the underlying pro-Israel resolution, he still calls Israel an ally (in The Gazette’s paraphrase), his campaign declined to comment on suspending arms sales (Jewish Insider), and no use of the word genocide by him was found. Conditioning stance over the line, but a mild one.
