Tier 2, “Mainstream pro-Israel”

Position

Affirms Israel’s right to safety and security and drew money from AIPAC donors (at least 27 gave to her primary campaign, The Intercept found, and a former AIPAC president is on her finance committee); has declined to call Gaza a genocide and won’t commit to blocking weapons. Her criticism of Netanyahu — she does not agree with how he “has carried out his response to October 7th” — and her support for a two-state solution and more humanitarian aid are mainstream positions; asked directly whether she supports continuing U.S. funding and weapons for Israel, her questionnaire answer did not say. She won the March 17, 2026 Democratic primary with 40.4% over Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi (32.7%), her leading opponent, whom AIPAC endorsed in 2024, and Rep. Robin Kelly (18.3%), whose campaign called Kelly the only candidate pledging to refuse AIPAC money, back Block the Bombs and call the genocide what it is.

Why this tier

A 2. She has no record in Congress and no leadership on the issue. Her words keep the mainstream frame: Israel “has a right to safety and security,” “a two state solution,” Netanyahu “should step down or be removed from power,” and she declines “genocide” and won’t commit to blocking weapons. What separates her from 1/2 is concern in her own words with no self-defense line beside it: “As a mom, I’m devastated by the indescribable loss of life that we’ve seen, on October 7th and every day since. The suffering must end,” and she wants “additional humanitarian aid to Gaza and U.S. assistance in the rebuilding process” (February 2026). Counter-case for 1/2: the concern rests on one questionnaire answer, and the same answer calls Israel “our democratic ally.”
