Tier 1/2, between “Firmly pro-Israel” and “Mainstream pro-Israel”
In his 2024 run for CA-20, he answered iVoterGuide’s question on Israel: “Israel is our strongest ally in the Middle East. We must stand in solidarity with the Jewish people as they fight to defend their sovereignty from terrorist states. An attack on Israel is an attack on the United States, and we must stand firm in our commitment to protect and defend our allies.” A Fresno businessman and investment banker, former chairman of Steinway Musical Instruments, challenging Rep. Jim Costa, he runs on the cost of living, deregulation, border security and crime.
A 1/2, on a thin record: one questionnaire answer from his 2024 run for CA-20. Asked by iVoterGuide whether the U.S. relationship with Israel is important, he wrote: “Israel is our strongest ally in the Middle East. We must stand in solidarity with the Jewish people as they fight to defend their sovereignty from terrorist states. An attack on Israel is an attack on the United States, and we must stand firm in our commitment to protect and defend our allies.” That goes further than a single ally sentence: it treats an attack on Israel as an attack on the United States and commits to defend it, with no word for Palestinian civilians and nothing on Gaza. Nothing in his record is leadership on the issue. In the 2026 race he has said nothing on Israel: his campaign site and Ballotpedia survey never mention it, and he left iVoterGuide’s Israel question unanswered. Counter-case: unrated, since his only words are a two-year-old answer from a different race.
