R · U.S. Senate, New Mexico · Tier 1/2

Tier 1/2, between “Firmly pro-Israel” and “Mainstream pro-Israel”

Position

He won the June 2 Republican primary as a write-in. Asked on his 2026 iVoterGuide questionnaire whether the U.S. relationship with Israel is important, he answered “Yes, they are our most stable and strongest ally in the middle east”; in a September 2026 Source NM interview he questioned the president’s constitutional authority to wage war in Iran but said nothing about Israel or Gaza. On a Rio Grande Foundation podcast the same month, speaking about tariffs, he said: “much like our relationship with Israel. People are all up in arms over that. Well, that is a business relationship.”

Why this tier

A 1/2, not a clean 1, on a thin record. His Israel statements are support for Israel as America’s strongest regional ally and a description of the U.S. relationship with Israel as “a business relationship,” with no expressed concern for Palestinian civilians and no leadership on the issue (no office, no Israel legislation or brand). His war-powers doubt about Iran is Iran framing, which does not count toward the critical end. Low confidence: a questionnaire line and a passing podcast remark.
