Tier 1/2, between “Firmly pro-Israel” and “Mainstream pro-Israel”
Israel is the second item on his campaign's list of positions: “ISRAEL: I stand tall with Israel and all Jews worldwide. Period.” An endorsement letter his campaign publishes cites “his steadfast support of Israel” among his distinguishing qualities. No statement on Gaza, military aid, Palestinian civilians or a two-state solution was found. Asked in iVoterGuide’s 2026 general-election questionnaire whether the U.S. relationship with Israel is important, Thompson answered: “Yes. They are a long-time ally of the United States - one of our few in the Middle East.”
A 1/2, not a clean 1. His record is textbook unconditional support — “I stand tall with Israel … Period.” — with no concern for Palestinian civilians anywhere, which rules out a flat 2. There is no leadership on the issue: no Israel legislation or office, no anti-BDS enforcement, no marquee pro-Israel fundraising, and no hardline brand beyond the one-line pledge. Open to a flat 2 if a statement of concern for Palestinian civilians surfaces.
