Mark Baisley
R · U.S. Senate, Colorado · Tier 1/2
Tier 1/2, between “Firmly pro-Israel” and “Mainstream pro-Israel”
Republican state senator challenging Hickenlooper. Asked on his 2026 iVoterGuide questionnaire whether the U.S. relationship with Israel is important, he answered “Yes. Without Israel, that portion of the World would devolve into cruel tyranny which would creep into the West. Also, Genesis 12:3.” On his 2022 state-senate questionnaire he marked “Strongly Disagree” to supporting the BDS movement, and in January 2024 he was one of more than 240 state legislators who signed an ALEC letter to President Biden opposing “pressuring Israel to implement a premature ceasefire” and backing “Israel’s right to pursue – without interference or condemnation – the elimination of Hamas”; his campaign platform does not address Israel. Asked by the Colorado Sun in October 2026 whether the U.S. should provide more financial and military aid to Israel and whether that money should come with conditions, he answered “Yes and yes,” saying, as the Sun reported it, that Israel should not be allowed to take independent actions in the Middle East that disrupt U.S. relationships and agreements in the region.
A 1/2, not a clean 1. His stated position is faith-grounded support for Israel — the Genesis 12:3 blessing-and-curse framing — with firm opposition to BDS and no expressed concern for Palestinian civilians. He backs more financial and military aid; the one condition he would attach, as the Colorado Sun reported it in October 2026, is that Israel not take independent actions that disrupt U.S. agreements in the region — a condition set by U.S. interests, not by concern for Palestinians. As a state legislator he has no Israel legislation, anti-BDS enforcement or hardline brand on record (his January 2024 signature against “a premature ceasefire” was one of more than 240 on an ALEC letter), and his Senate campaign is built on affordability and taxes, so there is no leadership on the issue. His is reliable support, with no expressed concern for Palestinian civilians and no leadership on the issue: a 1/2.
