Tier 2, “Mainstream pro-Israel”
A former Air Force JAG officer and agricultural lawyer running as an independent in NE-3. His issues page says “I support Israel’s right to exist and defend itself” and backs “a two-state solution as the best path to peace,” adds that “What's happened to civilians in Gaza and Lebanon since is also tragic,” and, as a former military prosecutor, says genocide “(as defined by law) is hard to prove” and that “mass killing can be a war crime without meeting the legal definition of genocide.” He says he would not take AIPAC money and that “We should not merge our defense industry with Israel's — or any other nation's.”
A 2, and a mild one. He backs Israel's right to exist and defend itself and a two-state solution, and he voices concern for civilians in Gaza in his own words without, in that passage, invoking Israel's self-defense — the line a flat 2 turns on. He declines the genocide label on legal grounds and takes no position on aid or arms beyond refusing AIPAC money and opposing a merged U.S.-Israeli defense industry; his objection to the Iran strikes is about war powers. Counter-cases: 1/2, since the Gaza line is followed at once by “There are tragedies all over the world. I wish I could solve them all, but I can’t”; or 2/3, reading the AIPAC refusal, the defense-industry line and the war-crimes language in his genocide answer as supportive-but-critical.
