Mark Messmer
R · U.S. House, IN-8 · Tier 1/2
Tier 1/2, between “Firmly pro-Israel” and “Mainstream pro-Israel”
First-term member (since January 2025) who cosponsored Mike Lawler's IGO Anti-Boycott Act (Mar 2025) and Abraham Accords Defense Against Terror Act (Jul 2025), calling Trump “the most pro-Israel president in modern American history,” and who backed Israel's June 2025 strikes on Iran: “I stand with our great ally, Israel.” On the Education and Workforce Committee he pressed university presidents in its 2025 campus-antisemitism hearings, saying school leaders were “protecting the antisemite aggressors.” He has voted the full pro-Israel line since taking office: for ICC sanctions over the Netanyahu and Gallant warrants (Jan 2025), against the 2025 Greene and 2026 Massie cuts, and for the September 2026 college anti-boycott bill. His 2024 campaign site said movements for “boycott, divestment, and sanctions (BDS) against Israel undermine the possibility of peace and stability in the region” and “I oppose these movements unequivocally.”
A 1/2, not a clean 1. His votes and statements are pro-Israel without daylight and no concern for Palestinian civilians was found, which rules out a flat 2. There is no leadership on the issue: he has written no Israel legislation (0 of 17 sponsored bills and resolutions), and the anti-boycott and Abraham Accords bills are Lawler's, which he cosponsored; questioning university presidents in committee hearings is participation, not leadership.
