Mary Peltola
D · U.S. Senate, Alaska · Tier 2
Tier 2, “Mainstream pro-Israel”
A moderate with a strong, party-defying pro-Israel House record: she voted to override Biden's arms hold, for the February 2024 standalone Israel aid package most Democrats opposed (H.R.7217), for the aid supplemental and ICC sanctions, and for the Antisemitism Awareness Act. Peltola voted against H.R.6126, the November 2023 Israel aid bill paid for by rescinding $14.3 billion in IRS funding, which 194 of the 206 Democrats voting opposed. She also voted against censuring Rashida Tlaib (H.Res.845, Nov 2023), a censure 22 Democrats supported. Asked about Israel in an October 2024 debate she did not say the country’s name, answering instead that “The conflict in Palestine and in Gaza is terrible. It’s a real humanitarian crisis.” At a late-August 2026 campaign stop in Ketchikan she said the war is “horrible,” that she “did not solicit” AIPAC donations, that Netanyahu and Trump “just seem like twins,” and that she had understood her aid vote to mean “we did not want any more weapons going to Israel for any more destruction in Palestine” (Ketchikan Daily News, Sep 1, 2026). Her voting record is the opposite of conditioning. She did not vote on the September 2024 Anti-BDS Labeling Act (H.R.5179, roll 428, Sep 18 2024). Led Alaska’s Aug 18, 2026 top-four primary with 49.5% to Sullivan’s 41.4%; both advanced to the November ranked-choice general.
A 2. Peltola’s House votes sit at the pro-Israel end of her party: in 2024 she voted for the February standalone Israel aid bill most Democrats opposed, the April aid supplemental, the Antisemitism Awareness Act, the May bill forcing delivery of the bombs Biden had paused, and ICC sanctions. $50,456 reached her House campaign through AIPAC’s PAC (direct and earmarked) in the 2024 cycle, money she says she did not solicit and tried to return (Ketchikan Daily News), and in August 2026 EDW Action Fund, a super PAC that took about 30% of its 2026 receipts from UDP and DMFI, spent $253,750 for her Senate run. Her concern is on record in words only. In an October 2024 debate, without naming Israel, she said “The conflict in Palestine and in Gaza is terrible. It’s a real humanitarian crisis,” adding that “we continue to provide humanitarian relief wherever we can”; in the Alaska Beacon’s 2024 questionnaire she wrote “I mourn all of the lives that have been lost - especially the children who have lost their futures” and “We must minimize civilian casualties”; and in August 2026 she said she had understood her aid vote to mean “we did not want any more weapons going to Israel for any more destruction in Palestine.” That concern, in her own words and never paired with Israel’s right to defend itself, is daylight her votes don’t show. She voted against the Tlaib censure and the November 2023 aid bill paid for with IRS cuts, as nearly all Democrats did, and did not vote on the September 2024 anti-BDS bill. Counter-case: 1/2, since every vote through 2024 points the other way, including her Yea on forcing the paused bomb shipment, which her 2026 account of her aid vote contradicts.
