Tier 2, “Mainstream pro-Israel”
Asked at the MI-10 debate on WDIV’s Flashpoint, aired October 25, 2026, how he would vote on selling weapons to Israel, he said: “When it comes to Israel, I don’t think we should be giving free weapons to any country. I think we should be selling them when it benefits America and benefits our strategic interests.” Asked whether that held for offensive and defensive weapons alike, he answered, “as long as the US taxpayers are not funding wars abroad. We need to be spending more money at home.” The RJC PAC’s endorsement page says he “claims a personal connection to Israel, having traveled there on his own, and he has vowed to stand with Israel unapologetically,” and that he “favors an unrelenting maximum pressure posture to squeeze the terrorist Iranian regime economically.” An Army National Guard captain back from a 2025 Iraq deployment and son of the Oakland County sheriff, endorsed by President Trump and Rep. Jim Jordan, he runs on manufacturing, the border and a parents' bill of rights in a toss-up race against Democrat Christina Hines.
A thin 2, on one debate answer. Asked at the October 25, 2026 MI-10 debate on WDIV how he would vote on selling weapons to Israel, he said, “I don’t think we should be giving free weapons to any country. I think we should be selling them when it benefits America and benefits our strategic interests,” offensive and defensive alike, “as long as the US taxpayers are not funding wars abroad.” Ending U.S. payment while leaving Israel free to buy its weapons is an argument about who pays, not about how the weapons are used. The RJC PAC’s endorsement page says he has “vowed to stand with Israel unapologetically,” but those are the RJC’s words, not his. Counter-case: 1/2, if the RJC’s account is weighed beside his answer.
