Michael Echols
R · U.S. House, LA-5 · Tier 1/2
Tier 1/2, between “Firmly pro-Israel” and “Mainstream pro-Israel”
His campaign’s foreign-policy plank (March 2026) backs “standing with Israel as it defends itself against terrorism, and confronting the Iranian regime that sponsors violence across the Middle East.” As a Louisiana state representative from Monroe (since 2020) he voted for SCR 21 (May 2024), which memorialized Congress to support Israel’s effort to “root out Hamas” and backed Israel’s rejection of any imposed settlement, and for House resolutions condemning campus antisemitism, including the “From the River to the Sea” chant (HR 353, 2024), and urging colleges to write antisemitism policies “guided by the IHRA working definition” (HR 167, 2025).
A 1/2, not a clean 1. His own words are zero-daylight support — Israel “defends itself against terrorism,” paired with confronting Iran — and his votes match: Yea on SCR 21 (75–8), which stood with Israel’s war and its rejection of any imposed settlement, and on two House resolutions tying campus protest speech to antisemitism. None of the three was his: he authored or co-authored no Israel measure, and there is no leadership on the issue or maximalist brand, so not a clean 1. No concern for Palestinian civilians appears in his record, so a flat 2 is not available.
