Tier 1/2, between “Firmly pro-Israel” and “Mainstream pro-Israel”
Ways and Means Republican whose one Israel press statement since October 7 (Oct 2025) condemned a Central Ohio imam's reported support for Hamas, complained of “anti-Israel mobs” on campuses “and even outside my own home in Central Ohio,” and said “support for terrorist organizations like Hamas should be rejected.” He cosponsored the Antisemitism Awareness Act (Feb 2024, and its 2025 version as an original cosponsor) and voted for every tracked Israel measure: the Israel-only supplementals (Nov 2023, as an original cosponsor; Feb 2024), the April 2024 package, the bill to force the paused bomb shipment (May 2024), ICC sanctions (Jun 2024 and Jan 2025), the amendment barring the State Department from citing Gaza Health Ministry casualty figures (Jun 2024) and the September 2026 college anti-boycott bill, and against the 2025 Greene and 2026 Massie cuts. In January 2024 he signed the Smith–Manning letter, whose signers “thoroughly reject” South Africa’s “charge of genocide” against Israel.
A 1/2, not a clean 1. The votes are zero-daylight and no concern for Palestinian civilians in his own words was found, so a flat 2 does not fit. There is no leadership on the issue: no authored Israel legislation (0 of 65 sponsored bills and resolutions), no caucus role, and only a single press statement on the subject, aimed at a local imam and protesters rather than at Israel policy, beside his signature on the Smith–Manning letter.
