Tier 1/2, between “Firmly pro-Israel” and “Mainstream pro-Israel”
A Bonfield truck driver and the Republican nominee in IL-2. In a full interview with CBS News Chicago posted October 6, 2026, he said of the war in Iran, “I do support the war. I don’t like it, but here’s the thing. It’s not our war. We didn’t start that war. That’s Israel’s war,” and added, “Israel is our ally, and that’s what makes all of our countries strong is when we’re allies. If somebody comes to attack one of our allies, that’s what we’re supposed to do, is come and help them.” Asked whether Gaza deserves U.S. assistance, he called it “a tough one,” said Hamas “put innocent people in the way for shields” and that “we have to get rid of them, plain and simple” — “Hamas and pretty much all the terrorist organizations, the people that are funding them.” He runs on converting health insurers into nonprofits, hydroelectric power, ICE enforcement focused on violent criminals, property- and gas-tax relief, and a jobs pipeline for veterans.
A thin 1/2, on one interview. In a CBS News Chicago interview posted October 6, 2026, he backed the war in Iran because “Israel is our ally”: “If somebody comes to attack one of our allies, that’s what we’re supposed to do, is come and help them.” Asked whether Gaza deserves U.S. assistance, he called it “a tough one” and committed to none; his only words on its civilians blamed Hamas, which he said “put innocent people in the way for shields,” and he called for its elimination: “we have to get rid of them, plain and simple.” That is support without daylight, with the harm to Gaza’s civilians laid on Hamas alone. On a thin record: those two answers. His campaign site and Ballotpedia profile (no survey) say nothing about Israel, Gaza or Palestine. He holds no office, and his FEC filings show no pro-Israel PAC money in 2022, 2024 or 2026. Counter-case: unrated, or America First distance, on “It’s not our war … That’s Israel’s war”; but in the same breath he said he supports the war.
