Nicholas Begich

R · U.S. House, Alaska at-large · Tier 1/2

Tier 1/2, between “Firmly pro-Israel” and “Mainstream pro-Israel”

Position

First-term member (since January 2025) who, as a 2024 candidate, told the Alaska Beacon that “The United States should fully support Israel with intelligence and arms to help eliminate Hamas and other regional terrorist threats,” backed sanctions on “state sponsors of terrorism” to stop them “fueling efforts to destabilize or overthrow Israel,” and invoked “Israel’s right to defend itself and its sovereignty.” In office his Middle East statements are about Iran — he called the February 2026 U.S. strikes “a necessary and targeted response” and listed Hamas among Iran’s “terrorist proxies” — and he has voted the full pro-Israel line: for ICC sanctions over the Netanyahu and Gallant warrants (Jan 2025), against the 2025 Greene amendment to cut $500 million in Israeli missile-defense aid and the July 2026 Massie amendment to strip Israel’s military financing, and for the September 2026 college anti-boycott bill.

Why this tier

A 1/2, not a clean 1. Every Israel vote since he took office in 2025 is pro-Israel, and his only Israel-specific words, from his 2024 campaign, call for arming Israel “to help eliminate Hamas” with no mention of Palestinian civilians, so a flat 2 does not fit; he has written no Israel legislation, holds no caucus role and has no Israel-centered brand, so there is no leadership on the issue. The record is thin, and the placement rests mainly on his votes.
